Antlers OK
Homecoming 2007
The Deer Capital Of The
World

Antlers is another town that joins in the fun with Oklahoma's Centennial
Celebration this year. Their annual Homecoming celebration is always eventful;
however, when you add in the Centennial, it is a wonderful event for everyone!
Antlers is the county seat of Pushmataha County in SE Oklahoma. Pushmataha
County is one of the largest counties in Oklahoma with many lakes, streams, and
mountains to choose from. Antlers was named after the numerous deer antlers left
by the Indian hunters around the spring.
Antlers is about 2.5 hours from Dallas, about 3 hours from Oklahoma City and
about 2.5 hours from Tulsa. Antlers has an
exit on the Indian Nation Turnpike. Paris, Texas is 40 miles south and DeQueen,
Arkansas is about 65 miles east of Antlers.
Homecoming is a big deal in Antlers! Sometimes the town triples in size as
the hometown folks welcomes the past
graduation classes, and other tourists. From the luncheons, the bands and street
dances to the parade that contains
floats, marching bands, twirlers, horseback riders, antique cars, covered
wagons, and other unusual vehicles that stretches
through the main streets. The kids love it because they fill up their bags full
of candy as if it was Halloween!
Registration on Friday and Saturday is at the Old Frisco Depot. They have a
good genealogy section also.
In addition to the parade, they have these other events going on:
Carnival at the Fairgrounds - Wednesday thru Saturday.
Rattan All-School Reunion - Friday evening
Turtle Races - Saturday morning
Homecoming Parade - Saturday starting at 10 AM
Classic Car Show at the Depot - Saturday
Chamber's Fish Fry - Saturday evening.
Gospel Singing - after the Fish Fry
Free Street Dance - 7 PM on North High Street.
